We have recently been advised that the whole of the roof at the back of the village hall is suffering from nail rot. Several slates have already slipped and caused leaks. Although a temporary repair has been carried out to fix the leaks, it won't be long before more problems are presented. This means that all the slates at the back of the hall must be stripped off and relaid using copper nails, costing around £10,000!
We know how much our local community values the village hall as a place for everyone to meet by the dedication and effort you have all put into improving and maintaining it over the years, drawing on your skills and resulting in the sense of shared responsibility. Therefore, we must raise the funds required to carry out these essential repairs to ensure that it remains usable. As you can see, we have made a start with our fundraising, but we have an awfully long way to go. One of the ways we would like to raise funds is by offering you all the opportunity to 'Sponsor a Slate'. This could be for yourself, family members or perhaps in memory of someone who used to live in Poughill. The suggested donation is £10 per slate, but any amount (both higher or lower) would be most welcome. We intend to produce a list of sponsors to display in the hall and write each sponsor's name on the slates' underside.
If you would like to sponsor a slate or help with fundraising, please email enquiries@poughillvillage.com.
